Muscat: The 'Darrbak' platform is an innovative interface that promotes adventure tourism in the Sultanate of Oman. It has gained popularity among both Omanis and foreign tourists due to the diverse and picturesque terrain of Oman.
Throughout history, the people of Oman have demonstrated their ability to adapt to challenging terrains. They have conquered high mountains, constructed houses from rocks, and established roads and paths that still exist today. In order to preserve these paths and follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, these mountain roads have become a sanctuary for adventure tourism enthusiasts.
Jassim bin Mohammed Al Alawi, the CEO of Darrbak, stated that the company aimed to create a platform that simplifies users' access to service providers, whether they are individuals or companies. The platform offers a wide range of activities and experiences, with a particular focus on adventure tourism such as mountain climbing, diving, and cruises. Additionally, it includes various sports, artistic, and cultural activities.
Al Alawi mentioned that the company was established at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. Despite the challenges faced by local and international companies and projects during this global crisis, the pandemic provided an opportunity for the company to learn and evaluate its experience.
Furthermore, Al Alawi highlighted that the platform collaborates with approximately 72 tourism companies specializing in various fields. As a result, it offers around 131 diverse experiences and activities across different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The CEO of Darrbak highlighted the rigorous process of selecting adventure sites, emphasizing that the platform team conducts thorough testing to ensure the sites are both challenging and safe before making them available to the public.
He also mentioned the platform's local achievements, such as winning the "Scale" award at the 33rd edition of the COMEX International Technology Exhibition, recognizing it as one of the best emerging technology companies.
Furthermore, he underlined the support from the Oman Technology Fund, which aims to invest in promising technology projects, and the crucial role played by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority in providing workshops and opportunities for platform team members.
In terms of future plans, he revealed the company's ambition to expand beyond Oman, already making progress through partnerships with Saudi and Kuwaiti companies.
Darrbak Company stands as a prime example of successful enterprises contributing to financial sustainability and enhancing the tourism sector, aligning with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 for economic growth and diversification.
