The announcement was made by the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate today regarding the competition for designing the monument for Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital of 2024. This competition is aimed at Omani youth with expertise in architecture, design, plastic arts, urban planning, civil engineering, as well as those with a passion and talent in related fields.
Dr. Yahya bin Badr bin Malik Al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, emphasized that the governorate's decision to launch a competition for the design of the memorial monument for Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital, underscores the commitment to engaging young individuals in showcasing their creativity in alignment with the objectives of this initiative.
Al Maawali emphasized that designating Sur as the capital of Arab tourism will spur the implementation of additional projects and initiatives to enhance and advance the tourism sector, while aiming to progress towards broader realms of development in the governorate's regions, leveraging its rich resources.
His Excellency the Governor of South Al Sharqiyah highlighted that the competition's overseeing committee has formulated a technical manual outlining the necessary criteria and benchmarks to be followed, the process of participation, and the competition's schedule. He mentioned that ten participants will be selected in the initial phase to advance to the second stage, where they will present their project ideas to the panel of judges, with three finalists ultimately being crowned in the top three positions.
Al Maawali underlined that the competition is expected to see intense rivalry given the Sultanate of Oman's wealth of talented national individuals, known for their innovation and expertise, and possessing a keen architectural perspective that blends ancient heritage with contemporary and modern values.
