Muscat: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced that certain banknotes will soon lose their validity in the Sultanate of Oman. According to a circular issued on January 7, 2024, these specific denominations of currency will be phased out within a maximum period of 360 days from the date of the circular. After December 31, 2024, these banknotes will no longer be in circulation and will hold no legal tender value.
The banknotes that will be withdrawn include those from the fifth issue of 1995, the modified issue of 2000, the commemorative banknotes of OMR 1 (2005) and OMR 20 (2010), the amended issues of 2011 and 2012, the commemorative OMR 1 banknote of 2015, and the modified OMR 50 banknote of 2019.
