Arrivals And Departures Survey To Boost Tourism In Oman

Muscat: In order to enhance tourism, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has launched a new initiative known as the Arrivals and Departures Survey for the year 2023/2024.

Khamis bin Humaid bin Hamad Al Qasmi, the Head of the Tourism Statistics Department and the Supervisor of the arrivals and departures survey at the NCSI, stated that the field work for the 2023/2024 arrivals and departures survey is currently being conducted at Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport, and six land ports, namely Khutma Milaha border crossing, Al-Wajjah, Al-Khatm, Hamasa, Hafeet, and Al-Dara border crossing. This project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Royal Oman Police.

The survey, which commenced on December 1, 2023, will run until November 30, 2024.

Al Qasmi further highlighted that one of the main objectives of this project is to estimate the total number of tourists who have visited the Sultanate of Oman, as well as gather data on their demographic and economic characteristics, and the duration of their stay.

"The valuable insights provided by this project will enable us to assess the current state of the tourism sector and develop appropriate plans to address any challenges it may face," he added.

The 2023 arrivals and departures survey is part of the National Centre for Statistics and Information's periodic field surveys, which are conducted every five years in accordance with the recommendations of the World Tourism Organisation.
