Al Musannah: The Wilayat of Al Musannah, situated in the South Al Batinah Governorate, stands as one of the premier tourism destinations within the Sultanate of Oman, particularly during the winter season.
This Wilayat boasts an array of tourism sites, diverse topography, and a rich cultural heritage.
Dr. Al Mutassim bin Nasser Al Hilali, the Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in South Al Batinah Governorate, highlighted that the coastal location of Al Musannah has contributed to its renown, thanks to its heritage rooted in ancient buildings, craft industries, and marine art, which encapsulate various facets of its history and cultural diversity.
The Al Musannah Castle stands as the principal castle in the Wilayat, located along the coastal line. It is constructed using stones procured from distant areas. Additionally, he noted that the coastline of the Wilayat of Al Musannah is characterized by captivating beaches that stretch from Widam Al Sahil to the Wilayat of Barka. The most celebrated beach is the one that extends from the sports city area to Al Owaid.
These beaches offer expansive spaces for exercise and marine sports, relaxation, and camping, he further elaborated.
He mentioned that the Ministry of Heritage has awarded a tender for investment in the Al Khamis Wall and Tower within the Wilayat of Al Musannah to private sector companies specializing in heritage projects.
The decision to award this project is part of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism's commitment to the employment of cultural heritage and the creation of both direct and indirect job opportunities through the empowerment of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
The Al Khamis Wall and Tower are renowned historic landmarks within the Wilayat, featuring a fort and two towers. The fort was renovated in 2016, and the management of the fort was subsequently awarded to a private investing company.
According to the fort management's statistics, since its inauguration on January 1, 2024, to the end of June 2024, the castle has welcomed a total of 11,522 visitors from various nationalities.
