Agreement Signed For Phase 1 Of Batinah Coastal Road

Muscat: An agreement has been signed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) to commence the first phase of the Batinah Coastal Road project. This phase will involve the completion of remaining sections, as well as the construction of a bridge to replace the Al Suwaiq roundabout. The total value of this phase is approximately RO79 million.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. Mohammed Abdul Latif, General Manager of the project for Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), signed on behalf of the company. Engineer Badr bin Salem al Mamari, Secretary General of the Tender Board, was also present during the signing.

The project will focus on completing the unfinished portions of the first phase, which spans a total length of 30 km. This includes paving 22 km of the remaining sections in the first part of the phase (Barka - Suwai port), as well as paving 8 km of the remaining sections in the second part of the phase (Sohar Port - Khatmat Milaha).

To ensure the road's durability during rainfall, the project will also involve the construction of four wadi bridges and 67 box culverts. Additionally, service roads will be built on both sides of the road.

Furthermore, the project will include the duplication of the 4 km Barka Souq link and the 6 km Suwaiq Wilayat link. The Suwaiq Bridge will also be constructed on the Batinah Main Road as part of the project.

The Barka-Al Suwaiq double connection will greatly improve the movement of goods and boost economic activity. It will effectively link the various components of the logistics system between the ports of Barka and Al Suwaiq, as well as the Khazaen Economic City and expressways.

The Batinah Coastal Road project spans a total distance of 244 km, starting from the Wilayat of Barka and ending in Khatmat Milaha in the Wilayat of Shinas.

To ensure smooth implementation, the project has been divided into two phases, with the first phase consisting of two parts.

The first part covers a distance of 66 km, starting from the Al Naseem Interchange in the Wilayat of Barka and extending until Al Suwaiq Port.

The second part spans a distance of 67 km, connecting Sohar Port to Khatmat Milaha.

The second phase of the project encompasses a distance of 111 km, linking Suwaiq Port to Sohar Port.
