16.4 Per Cent Jump In Air Travellers In Oman

According to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the Sultanate of Oman's airports experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic by the end of April 2024. The total number of passengers reached 4,901,796, marking a 16.4 percent rise compared to the same period last year. This growth was accompanied by an increase in the number of flights, with a total of 36,042 flights recorded during this period, compared to 32,071 flights previously.

In terms of specific airports, Muscat International Airport played a significant role in this surge. The airport witnessed a substantial increase in passenger numbers, reaching approximately 4,430,119 by the end of April 2024. This represents a growth rate of 16.8 percent. The number of flights also saw a notable rise, with 32,520 flights recorded during this period, reflecting a 12.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Analyzing the passenger composition, it is worth noting that the majority of travelers were on international flights. Out of the total flights, 29,862 were international, accommodating 4,097,728 passengers. Additionally, there were 2,658 domestic flights, serving 332,391 passengers.

In terms of nationalities, Indian nationals constituted the highest number of passengers traveling through Muscat International Airport in April. The arrivals from India reached 89,206 passengers, while the departures amounted to 83,855 passengers. Pakistani nationals followed with 21,191 arrivals and 19,532 departures, and Bangladeshi nationals with 12,829 arrivals and 20,597 departures.

The total number of passengers who traveled through Salalah Airport was 429,181, representing a growth of 9.9 percent. These passengers were accommodated on a total of 3,122 flights, which also experienced a 9.9 percent increase. 

At Salalah Airport, there were 1,660 international flights that transported 214,934 passengers. Additionally, there were 1,462 domestic flights that carried 214,247 passengers. 

Moving on to other airports, Sohar Airport recorded a total of 22,390 passengers who traveled on 192 flights. Similarly, Duqm Airport saw 20,106 passengers on 208 flights.
