Workshop Reviews Means Of Enabling Omani Projects To Offset Aviation Emissions, Promote Sustainability

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority hosted a workshop on Wednesday, in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), titled Understanding and Implementing the Requirements of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) in the Sultanate of Oman.

The seminar was designed to increase stakeholders in the Sultanate of Oman knowledge of the CORSIA program's standards.

The workshop also intended to improve understanding of the processes for endorsing new projects based on the CORSIA programme in such a way that the Sultanate of Oman benefits economically and environmentally. It details the program's influence on the global carbon market system as well as sustainable development initiatives at the local and international levels.

The training explained the CORSIA program and its link to the regulatory frameworks established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It also stated the standards for CORSIA compliance and how they connect to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It also looked at case studies of qualifying CORSIA projects, with a focus on the Global Carbon Council and similar Omani projects.

The training focused on methods for finding and promoting opportunities that would optimize the advantages of the Sultanate of Oman's carbon offset emissions in projects, incorporating these initiatives into international frameworks, and encouraging cooperation among stakeholders such as regulators, airlines, and project developers.

The workshop's findings will help to develop new projects approved under CORSIA programs. They will also assist to accomplish greater environmental and economic objectives in the Sultanate of Oman, improve participants' ability to recognize and execute suitable CORSIA projects, and guarantee that such initiatives are consistent with global best practices.
