Oman Advances 5 Places In The Global Innovation Index 2025

Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman has made remarkable strides in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025, moving up 5 positions to secure the 69th rank among 139 economies globally.

This accomplishment is emphasized in the 18th edition of the report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The report highlighted Oman's impressive performance, placing it among the top 20 worldwide in six sub-indicators: 9th in the development of economic cluster environments; 10th in policy stability for conducting business; 12th in graduates in science and engineering; 14th in net foreign direct investment inflows as a percentage of GDP; 15th in access to information and communication technology; and 16th in electricity production (kWh per million people).

Additionally, the report indicated that Oman made progress in three essential pillars: it rose 3 ranks in the Institutions pillar to 40th place; climbed 8 ranks in the Infrastructure pillar to 55th place; and jumped 23 ranks in the Business Sophistication pillar to 63rd place.

Moreover, Oman experienced significant advancements in seven specific sub-indicators, improving 60 places in patents by origin, 23 places in the business sophistication pillar, 22 places in high-tech manufacturing, and 21 places in both gross capital formation and net foreign direct investment inflows.

It also ascended 20 places in knowledge production and 5 places in research collaboration between industry and academia.
