Muscat: The Ministry of Labour hosted a workshop today to assess the labour market requirements of private sector entities. The objective of the workshop was to identify the necessary jobs, skills, and future demands within the labour market.
Additionally, the survey seeks to bridge the gap between educational outcomes and labour market needs while pinpointing emerging job specializations in light of the 4th and 5th Industrial Revolutions.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Mahad Said Ba'owain, the Minister of Labour.
This survey, conducted by the Ministry of Labour, marks a pioneering effort in the Sultanate of Oman. It was overseen by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) and supported by experts from the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The findings of the survey yielded numerous recommendations, particularly focusing on the key pillars of the national economy, education, and the labour market.
The survey emphasized high-value-added industries across all economic sectors, taking into account the comparative advantages of Oman. It also examined strategies to enhance value chains in existing sectors, such as mining, with the ultimate goal of fostering a more dynamic and diversified labour market that accommodates a variety of skills and specializations.
