Why Don’t Holidays Last Forever?

Why Don’t Holidays Last Forever?

The Eid holiday has flown by so swiftly that it has left me feeling overwhelmed. Why can't vacations endure indefinitely?

I emitted a lengthy sigh that nearly startled the cat residing in my garden. While you, my furry companion, can leisurely lounge beneath that tree without a care in the world, I am bombarded with email reminders from every direction, urging me to return to work.

Speaking of work colleagues, they are the type of individuals who do not take deadlines lightly. They compose curt messages that demand, "send it asap" or "let's have it at the earliest."

There is no need for us to embark on a journey, whether it be camping or jetting off to a foreign land, in order to find contentment. Taking short breaks at home can be a true vacation, as venturing outdoors feels akin to being at work. Besides, brief holidays are always bustling and leave one more exhausted than regular workdays. This holds true for many individuals, at least.

Upon closer examination, I realize that public holidays offer more than just a respite. All one needs to do is remove the mental 'working cap' worn on regular days and replace it with a new one. In doing so, you shed your old persona and transform into a new individual. You can sense the newfound lightness within yourself as the weight of responsibility is mentally lifted away.

It is essential to remember that returning from a holiday does not automatically transform us into a new and improved version of ourselves. While vacations provide a temporary escape from our usual stressors, they do not permanently alter our identity. Therefore, it is crucial to mentally prepare for the return to work in order to maintain a sense of balance and avoid falling back into old patterns of stress and anxiety.
