The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Al-Mussanah recently hosted a symposium titled “Enhancing In-Country Value to Support Innovative and Entrepreneurial Projects—A Strategic Partnership Towards Achieving Oman Vision 2040,” with sponsorship from the Development Bank. This prestigious event brought together key stakeholders, including the General Secretariat of the Tender Board, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the National Employment Program, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority.
The symposium commenced with a keynote address by Mr. Masoud Sulaiman Al Salmani, the Head of Partnership and Entrepreneurship Section at the University, who underscored the university's commitment to fostering scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He highlighted the university's initiatives, which include competitions, training programs, and the establishment of business incubators and advisory programs. These initiatives are designed to support student projects and encourage their participation in local and regional competitions. Furthermore, Mr. Al Salmani emphasized the university's focus on strategic partnerships with the private sector to enhance technology transfer and promote innovative commercial ventures.
The symposium then featured a series of presentations and investment opportunities. The proceedings began with a video presentation by the General Secretariat of the Tender Board on national policies for local content, followed by another by the National Employment Program on employment pathways. The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority presented support programs for entrepreneurs, while the Development Bank outlined financial support options. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals introduced investment opportunities through the Makeen platform.
The symposium concluded with a showcase of successful investments, with the Four Dimensions (Al Noor Farm) being highlighted as a prime example of an innovative business model. The event was rounded off with a discussion led by Dr. Ali Al-Ghoneimi, which delved into the roles and responsibilities of the participating entities.
In recognition of the participants, contributors, and sponsors, the Development Bank presented incentive awards to students, marking the successful conclusion of the symposium.
