Washington DC: In a notable departure from his typical assertion of having halted "seven wars", US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday (local time) that he has actually stopped "three wars".
Trump did not clarify which specific conflicts he was referring to, but mentioned that they had been ongoing for over thirty years.
"You know, I resolved three wars. One lasted 31 years, resulting in many casualties, 10 million people. Another lasted 34 years, and the last one was ongoing for 37 years," he remarked.
While addressing reporters during a high-profile dinner with leading tech CEOs at the White House, Trump responded to a question regarding the Russia-Ukraine situation. He noted that regarding the conflicts he claimed to have resolved, people had told him it was impossible, yet he managed to do so. He expressed confidence that he would achieve the same with Moscow and Kyiv.
"People said, 'You can't resolve them.' And I did. This one has proven to be more challenging, but we will get it done. We are going to settle it," he stated.
Previously, Trump had often taken credit for ending the India-Pakistan conflict following Operation Sindoor through trade negotiations.
On August 26, he reiterated that his involvement prevented a potential nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan, claiming that seven fighter jets were downed during the intense hostilities, a number he had previously stated as five, and that he applied trade pressure to cease the fighting.
"I have halted all of these wars. A significant one would have been between India and Pakistan," Trump declared during a bilateral meeting with the President of South Korea.
He continued, "The conflict with India and Pakistan was on the verge of escalating into a nuclear war. They had already shot down seven jets - it was intense. I said, 'You want to trade? We are not engaging in any trade or anything with you. If you continue fighting, you have 24 hours to resolve it.' They responded, 'Well, there is no more war happening.' I have utilized that strategy on numerous occasions. I employed trade and whatever means necessary to achieve this."
