Muscat: During the 26th meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism in Doha, the South al Sharqiyah Governorate's Wilayat of Sur was selected as the capital of Arab Tourism for the year 2024.
This selection took into account various factors such as the presence of infrastructure and tourism resources, the range of tourism activities available, the policies in place for environmental preservation, and the existence of archaeological sites from different historical periods, some of which have been recognized as World Heritage sites.
In his statement, Azzan bin Qasim al Busaidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, emphasized that the choice of the Wilayat of Sur reflects the collective endeavors of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and other relevant stakeholders in hosting this prestigious designation.
