At least five individuals lost their lives in a suspected truck bomb explosion that occurred on Thursday afternoon near a military base in Cali, which is the third most populous city in Colombia.
Numerous individuals sustained injuries from the blast, which took place on a road next to a military aviation school, as reported by the mayor's office in Cali, located in the southwestern region of the South American nation.
Earlier that day, a police helicopter was shot down in the Antioquia department in northern Colombia, resulting in the deaths of 12 officers and injuring several others.
The national police's Black Hawk helicopter was on a mission to transport personnel to the rural area of Amalfi for the purpose of eradicating coca leaf crops, the primary ingredient used in cocaine production.
Andres Julian, the governor of Antioquia, mentioned in a post on X that a drone had attacked the helicopter while it was flying over the coca leaf fields.
In a subsequent post, he questioned why authorities had not managed to rescue the injured or recover the bodies of the deceased nine hours after the helicopter was downed.
