Muscat: Today, the State Council welcomed Mohammed Said Al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, and officials from the Ministry of Information for a productive discussion on the new media law.
Representing the State Council was the subcommittee from the Social and Cultural Committee, led by Dr. Abdullah Khamis Al Kindi, the committee's chairman.
This meeting marked the 6th session of the State Council's first convening during the 8th Term.
The aim of the draft media law is to incorporate recent updates and developments in the media landscape since the last set of regulations were introduced. This new legislation is designed to provide a comprehensive framework for the media sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
During the discussions, various topics were covered, including the potential impact of the draft law on the media industry, enhancing Oman's international standing in terms of freedom of expression, and establishing clear procedures for licensing media-related activities.
