Oman Participates In UN Meeting

Geneva: During the 59th session of the Human Rights Council, Oman participated in an interactive discussion on the Special Rapporteur's report on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Oman underlined the significance of the in-depth report, which examines the legal and humanitarian aspects, notably the participation of certain economic entities in activities that reinforce Israeli occupation and aggravate its effects on the Palestinian people.

In a speech given by Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Oman stated that certain firms offer services, infrastructure, or technologies that are utilized in unlawful settlement initiatives. This raises worries about international law, notably the Geneva Conventions and the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights.

Oman emphasized that resolving this problem needs actual commitment from governments and relevant organizations to guarantee the private sector complies with international law. It also recommended improved regulatory frameworks and monitoring tools to prevent such violations, as well as strengthened legal accountability mechanisms—including those for parties directly or indirectly contributing to systematic abuses—to uphold international law and prevent impunity.

Furthermore, Oman reaffirmed its unwavering support for international efforts to end occupation and allow the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, the most important of which is self-determination, based on international legal resolutions and the two-state solution to promote regional security and stability.
