Royal Hospital Conducts 8 Surgeries With Modern Technique

A team of medical specialists from the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery (NCCMS) at the Royal Hospital in Muscat successfully carried out eight complex surgeries using the Orbital Atherectomy technique for the first time in Oman.

Dr. Adel Ali Al Jabri, an interventional cardiology and catheterization consultant at NCCMS, informed the Oman News Agency (ONA) that the initial results of this service, introduced in June 2022, were promising. This success has encouraged the medical team to continue utilizing this technique to treat patients with intricate arterial blockages.

Furthermore, Dr. Adel mentioned the introduction of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology in Oman for the first time during the same period. This technology has proven to be beneficial in diagnosing and treating complex arterial cases.

Dr. Adel emphasized that the Orbital Atherectomy technique is an advanced approach for treating calcified arterial blockages that are resistant to traditional methods. He highlighted that this technique enables precise removal of calcific deposits without causing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.

Moreover, Dr. Adel highlighted the importance of the OCT technology in conjunction with the Orbital Atherectomy technique. The high-resolution images provided by OCT aid in accurate diagnosis of arterial blockages, assisting doctors in determining the most suitable treatment for each patient.

The introduction of these cutting-edge technologies at NCCMS marks a significant advancement in delivering optimal care to individuals with cardiovascular conditions.
