Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has taken into custody an Egyptian tourist on charges of fraud. The arrest was made by the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations after the suspect deceived a local resident by proposing to exchange US dollars for Omani rials at an implausible 50% discount.
In a statement released online, the ROP noted: "The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations has apprehended an Egyptian tourist for defrauding a citizen by luring him into exchanging dollars for Omani rials at a significantly reduced rate of 50%."
Legal proceedings are currently being finalized.
