ROHM Concludes 2023/24 Season With Cairo Opera Performance

Muscat: The 2023/24 season at the Royal Opera House Muscat came to a close with a mesmerizing performance of Scheherazade by the Cairo Opera, directed by Walid Aouni.

The Royal Opera House of Musical Arts was filled with eager audiences who were transported into the enchanting world of 1001 Nights through a stunning dance performance by the Cairo Opera's Modern Dance Company.

Under the visionary leadership of Walid Aouni, the Artistic Director, Director, and Designer of the Egyptian Modern Dance Company, the performance captivated the audience with its innovative interpretation of one of the most renowned tales in Arab history.

Aouni's reimagination of Scheherazade, inspired by Rimsky-Korsakov’s evocative score, featured exceptional staging and costumes that brought the story to life. Aouni explained, "What you hear is a depiction of what can be read in the book or seen in our imaginations, such as the smell of a perfume or the feel or meaning of a rhythm: arguably no composer reaches as deeply into the story, chasing musical expression to interpret sentences, as Rimsky-Korsakov did."

Established in 1993, the Egyptian Modern Dance Company is the first of its kind in the Arab world and has performed globally, captivating audiences from Europe to Russia and across the Middle East.

This visit to Oman marks the company's second appearance, following their successful presentations of Zorba the Great and El Leila El Kebira with the Cairo Opera Ballet during the 2023/24 season.

The Royal Opera House Muscat, the leading performing arts venue, is wrapping up its 2023/24 season and is excited to invite its loyal customers to explore its cultural program. This includes daily tours of the main theatre, where visitors can immerse themselves in the grandeur of the venue, as well as a unique permanent exhibition called "Oman and the World: A Musical Journey."

In addition to these offerings, the Royal Opera House Muscat will be hosting its annual children's summer camp, with a focus on the fascinating theme of the Animal World. These workshops are designed to teach children the art of capturing the essence of animals through acting, fostering a deep connection with nature and sound. Led by both local and international teachers, the children will engage in various activities that explore animal sounds, colors, and behaviors. Through these experiences, they will discover the boundless possibilities that theater has to offer.
