Respect For International Law Must Be Through Action: Sayyid Badr

Muscat - The Foreign Minister of Muscat, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, has articulated that while proponents of Israel often advocate for the principles of international law, their actions frequently contradict these principles, particularly in the context of Palestine. He emphasized the urgent need for a genuine commitment to international law, underscoring that adherence to these principles should transcend mere rhetoric and manifest in concrete actions.

In a statement disseminated on the social media platform X, he articulated, "It is a common observation that certain governments adopt a passive stance, condemning the actions of Iran without contributing to any resolution, or that they steadfastly support Israel regardless of the consequences. This approach is not only ineffective but also perpetuates the status quo. Instead, we must confront the root cause of the current crisis, which is the illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel. It is only through the cessation of Israel's unlawful presence that we can hope to achieve lasting peace in the region. Those who believe that alternative paths to peace, such as containing Iran, eliminating militant groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, or providing unwavering political, military, and financial support to Israel, are viable solutions are either misinformed, naive, or deliberately avoiding the truth."

He further highlighted the prolonged suffering that the reality of this situation has inflicted, noting that many Western governments have delayed addressing this reality, thereby failing to ensure the security and stability of the Palestinian populace, which can only be guaranteed by a sovereign Palestinian state. The rights and lives of Palestinians under occupation have been progressively diminished due to the expansion of illegal settlements and the imposition of apartheid-like conditions.

He called for a collective demand for Israel to halt its military operations in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon. He further advocated for international action to end Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state. This state should be supported not just by the legal framework but by the full institutional and organizational support of the international community.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for a genuine commitment to the rights and lives of Palestinians under occupation, highlighting the contradiction between the advocacy for international law and the actual actions of Israel.
