Dhofar Governorate Achieves Milestones In Healthcare Infrastructure Development

Salalah: The Dhofar The Governorate is making significant progress on key healthcare infrastructure projects aimed at improving medical services and increasing healthcare access for both citizens and residents.

These changes are part of Oman's overall plan to upgrade its healthcare system and strengthen its fundamental infrastructure in accordance with national development objectives and Oman Vision 2040.

Dr. Hani Ahmed Al Qadi, Director General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate, identified the Sultan Qaboos Hospital project in Salalah as the flagship initiative among current developments, with 72% completion of the RO 138 million facility.

Dr. Al Qadi told Oman News Agency (ONA) about the hospital's characteristics: The 100,000-square-meter medical complex includes a seven-story structure with 700 beds spread over 3,238 rooms. The institution will have specialist divisions for emergency care, medical imaging, chemotherapy, dialysis, burn treatment, and rehabilitation services. In addition, it will have numerous intensive care units for adults, children, and newborns, as well as full training and support facilities.

According to Dr. Al Qadi, the new hospital represents a revolutionary step forward for healthcare provision in Dhofar. Beyond its larger capacity, the facility will function as a center for medical education and professional development, considerably improving our regional healthcare skills.

The Director General also highlighted the rapid advancement of other healthcare programs throughout the governorate, emphasizing the government's dedication to timely project completion. These strategic developments promote our decentralization efforts while upholding the best levels of medical care via successful public-private collaborations, he said.

Key projects that have made significant progress include the conversion of Thumrait Hospital. The upgrade of Thumrait Health Center into a full-service hospital is 80% complete. The revamped facility will include separate inpatient wards for male, female, and juvenile patients, isolation units, a dialysis center, and a full support infrastructure with conference rooms and administrative offices.

Mudhi Health Center is presently 70% complete with the construction of a new medical facility in Thumrait, which will include 12 general practice clinics, specialist dental care, radiology and physiotherapy services, diagnostic labs, pharmaceutical services, and health education resources.

According to Mirbat Emergency and Dialysis Unit, the first construction phases for the accident/emergency department and renal care center are 15 percent complete, indicating the start of improved emergency medical services for the area.

Taqa Hospital Expansion Project has already built four new clinical units, and emergency department improvements are now 10% complete.

The Awqad Health Center Enhancement Project, which is the second phase of expansion at the Awqad Health Center in Salalah, has reached 82% completion and includes four more clinical units to enhance patient capacity.

These strategic health investments reflect Oman's desire to building world-class medical infrastructure in all governorates, providing equal access to excellent healthcare services for all citizens while supporting the country's long-term sustainable development goals.
