Recognising State Of Palestine Is Historic Move: Ambassador Of Ireland To Oman

Gerry Cunningham, the appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to the Sultanate of Oman, emphasized the strong relations between the two countries, particularly in the cultural and education sectors. In an interview with Oman News Agency (ONA), he expressed his commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations. He highlighted the numerous opportunities for collaboration in the trade field, utilizing the strengths of both countries in areas such as agriculture, energy, renewable energy, and green hydrogen.

The ambassador also highlighted Oman as an exceptional tourist destination for Irish tourists, with its diverse attractions, including the renowned Royal Opera House Muscat. Furthermore, he acknowledged the historic significance of the Republic of Ireland's recognition of the State of Palestine, considering it a significant step for the Irish people.

According to the ambassador, the recognition of the State of Palestine was inevitable and a matter of time. He mentioned ongoing discussions in Europe that may lead to more countries recognizing the State of Palestine, particularly in light of the recent attack on a refugee camp in Rafah.
