Private Libraries, Cultural Centres’ Excellence Contest Launched

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has announced the launch of the fourth edition of the 2025 “Excellence Competition for Private Libraries and Cultural Centres.”

This initiative aims to enhance the development of innovative private libraries through a program that delves into ‘Open Knowledge Horizons.’

The timing of this competition's launch aligns with the observance of Arab Libraries Day, celebrated annually on March 10.

The significance of this competition lies in its ability to invigorate libraries and civil cultural centres, which play a crucial role in societal development.

This year's focus is on evaluating libraries and civil cultural centres through a comprehensive analysis of their effectiveness, guided by the “Open Knowledge Horizons” program.

The competition seeks to support libraries and private cultural centres across the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, encouraging them to enhance their services in line with advancements in library and information science. It also aims to strengthen their cultural contributions to society through the programs and services they offer, fostering a spirit of competition among cultural centres and libraries to excel in the cultural and community sectors, thereby actively promoting cultural engagement.
