Muscat: The Physical Activity Day organized by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) saw the participation of over 400 citizens and residents. The event, held in Musandam Governorate, was organized by the Oman Sports and Active Society Committee in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports, and Youth.
Under the patronage of Mubarak bin Ali bin Saeed Al Rahbi, Head of the Musandam Governor's Office, the day aimed to promote health and physical fitness. It encouraged participants to engage in physical activity, adopt a healthy lifestyle, and foster interaction between individuals of different ages through sports and activities.
The event also provided an opportunity for community members to learn new sports skills and enhance community interaction and social communication. The activities included a march for athletes from Khasab Port Gate to the event venue at Bassa Beach, as well as various traditional Omani games, swimming and athletics competitions, including long jump and show jumping for different age groups.
Furthermore, there was an adult roping competition, mountain climbing activities for both children and adults, a range of activities tailored for scouts, guides, and troopers, as well as various sports activities and competitions for children. Additionally, a health workshop was organized with the objective of educating community members about the significance of healthy nutrition and its impact on public health. The workshop aimed to enhance healthy food decision-making skills and encourage individuals to adopt a healthy lifestyle by reducing the consumption of nutritional supplements and focusing on beneficial foods.
These events garnered extensive community participation across all age groups and received significant engagement. The sports competitions witnessed high levels of competition, and there was fruitful collaboration with institutions in the governorate that partnered with the OOC to ensure the success of this sporting event.
Due to its significance in reinforcing the importance of sports in society and prioritizing it in public life, as well as promoting public health, spreading the culture of walking, and increasing the number of individuals engaging in physical activity, the practice of sports and the values and principles of the Olympic Movement have become integral components of the general culture and mindset of society.
