Organ Donation Is A Blessed Act

It is crucial to promote the idea of a medical will for organ donation, as humans are the sole providers of organs, and establishing procedures to save numerous lives in our community.

Addressing an awareness seminar on the significance of organ donation organized by the Ministry of Health, through the National Organ Transplant Programme Department, at the main Ooredoo branch, Dr. Qasim al Jahdhami, Head of the Organ Donation Department at the National Organ Transplant Programme, emphasized that organ donation has no negative impact on the donor's health.

Dr. Al Jahdhami stated, "After comparing the quality of life for patients before and after organ transplants, and the process of returning to normalcy, we have observed that organ donation during one's lifetime does not pose any risks to the donor. It is essential for everyone to promote the values of donation, as there is no harm in doing so."

The seminar highlighted the necessity of fostering a culture of organ donation and spreading awareness to enable those in need of organs to envision a new beginning.

The four main types of organ donation include living donation, deceased donation, tissue donation, and pediatric donation. However, due to the inadequate supply of organs compared to the demand, many individuals on the organ transplant waiting list face prolonged waits.

The national campaign to promote organ donation was initiated by the Ministry of Health in 2022, coinciding with the Omani Organ Donation Day. This campaign, conducted in collaboration with the Omani Association for Organ Transplantation, aims to educate the public about the significance of organ donation.

Religious scholars emphasize the importance of organ donation, citing a verse from the Holy Quran that states, "If anyone saves a life, it is as if he saves the lives of all humankind." Therefore, donating organs is considered a virtuous act as it has the potential to save lives. It is our moral duty to allow our organs to be used for transplantation, as it can greatly enhance the quality of life for others. To further enhance awareness, an introductory symposium was organized to highlight the importance of organ donation. Additionally, a mini-exhibition was held to address any queries related to organ transplantation and guide individuals on how to register in the Shifa application for organ donation.
