Omani Student Wins Second Place In FIAP International Photography Competition

Muscat: Maria Mohammed Al Rahbi, a student enrolled at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), has secured the second position in the individual category at the World Photography Cup for Universities and Higher Education Institutions 2024.

Maria Al Rahbi, pursuing a degree in Computer Science at the University's College of Science, is also an active member of the photography group within the Deanship of Student Affairs. Her participation in the competition was as part of a SQU team following the announcement of the contest to all higher education institutions globally.

Each institution is permitted to send a maximum of five students, with each student allowed to submit four photographs.

The competition, orchestrated by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), attracted participation from 88 universities worldwide.

The selection committee for the competition comprised distinguished experts in the field of photography, including representatives from the National Geographic Society, the Silk Road Photography Organization, and officials from the International Federation of Photographic Art or "Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique" (FIAP).

It is important to mention that the recipient of the award will be honored at a ceremony in China in October 2024, which will be part of a series of events including an international conference and a photography exhibition.

Fifteen of Maria Al Rahbi's photographs will be exhibited in FIAP sections. Additionally, Maria will have the opportunity to attend a workshop during the award ceremony, which will be open to international photographers.
