Omani Mountaineer Conquers Indonesian Peak

Omani mountaineer Sulaiman Hamoud Al Na’abi has successfully summited Mount Carstensz, recognized as one of Indonesia's highest peaks, standing at approximately 4,884 meters above sea level.

With this achievement, Al Na’abi has become the first Omani to complete the Seven Summits Challenge, as defined by two internationally acknowledged classifications. He has previously scaled the tallest mountains on each continent, including Mount Everest, which reaches 8,849 meters, and Lhotse, the fourth highest peak globally at 8,516 meters.

Al Na’abi recounted, “The journey commenced on February 18, when I arrived in the Timika region of West Papua province and joined an international team. We undertook all necessary administrative tasks and secured the special permits required to access the main camp. By the 28th of the month, we reached the main camp and began our preparations for the ascent. Ultimately, I was able to stand atop the summit.”

He further noted, "This expedition represents one of the most challenging segments of the Seven Summits Challenge, as Mount Carstensz features steep, rocky terrain that demands advanced technical climbing skills due to its sharp inclines and the necessity of employing rock climbing techniques."

He elaborated that the mountain is situated in a remote area within the forests of Papua, Indonesia, making access to its base a formidable challenge. The unpredictable weather conditions add to the difficulty, as heavy rainfall and thick fog can severely limit visibility. This environment requires climbers to maintain constant vigilance and caution.
