Oman To Take Part As Guest Of Honour At Doha International Book Fair

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has been chosen as the guest of honor for the 33rd edition of the Doha International Book Fair, scheduled to take place from May 9 to May 18, 2024.

Representing Oman at the event will be the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Sultan Qaboos University, as well as various civil society institutions such as the "Omani Society for Writers and Literati" and the "Memory of Oman National Cultural Centre."

Under the theme "Knowledge builds civilizations," the book fair will feature over 180,000 titles from 515 publishing houses representing 42 countries.

Sayyid Said Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, expressed that Oman's participation as the guest of honor highlights the strong bilateral relations between Oman and Qatar, as well as their shared cultural ties.

He further emphasized that the event provides an excellent opportunity to showcase Oman's diverse cultural activities and achievements to visitors.

The design of Oman's pavilion at the book fair draws inspiration from the magnificent Al Alam Palace, incorporating its stunning architectural elements and artistic decorations.

The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (OCO) will also be participating in the event, delivering various performances at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Oman's pavilion will host three exhibitions: the first will promote Oman's tourist attractions, cultural heritage, and historical landmarks; the second will showcase six rare Omani manuscripts; and the third will be a joint photography exhibition in collaboration with the Qatar Photography Society.

Additionally, the pavilion will feature products from participating government institutions, a virtual reality (VR) technology showcase, and exhibits from the World List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
