This initiative, crafted in collaboration with both governmental and private sector entities, is in harmony with the objectives delineated in "Oman Vision 2040" and is committed to achieving zero carbon emissions by the year 2050.
The strategy is meticulously focused on several critical areas, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, the hydrogen economy, and carbon capture, transport, and storage. It is founded upon five core principles: ensuring the security of energy supplies, facilitating a structured transition towards decarbonization, enhancing local capabilities in energy transformation, promoting a low-carbon economy, and preserving Oman's competitive position in the international energy market.

This is in line with Oman's dedication to economic diversification, carbon footprint reduction, job creation, and the development of national skills.
The Ministry is committed to increasing the proportion of renewable energy to 30% by the year 2030, 70% by the year 2040, and ultimately, 100% by the year 2050. Furthermore, the goal is to enhance energy efficiency to improve to 6 megajoules per US dollar of GDP by the year 2050.
The strategy also encompasses ambitious objectives for the adoption of zero-emission vehicles, aiming for a complete sales transition to such vehicles by the year 2050. Additionally, it establishes targets for green hydrogen production, with plans to achieve one million tons by the year 2030, three million tons by the year 2040, and eight million tons by the year 2050.
Al Hashimi emphasized that the transformation of the energy sector is a collective endeavor, offering new avenues for economic development in Oman, which is endowed with abundant renewable energy resources.
As a component of this initiative, the Ministry intends to organize site tours for renewable energy and clean hydrogen projects, in accordance with Royal Decree No. 10/2023, in alignment with the strategic objectives of the Oman Hydrogen Company, known as “Hydrom.”
