Oman Participates In Islamic Affairs Ministers Meeting In Makkah

Makkah: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, is participating in the "9th Conference of Ministers of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the Islamic World". This two-day conference, which commenced today in Makkah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, addresses the role of ministers in fostering the values of moderation.

Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, delivered Oman's address, which highlighted the challenges facing the global community, including the erosion of value concepts, moral imbalances, conflicts, and wars. These issues, he emphasized, have led to humanitarian and environmental crises, economic instability, hindered development efforts, and threatened social cohesion.

Al Maamari underscored that our societies are not immune to these challenges, as the Islamic world plays a crucial role in the global fabric of community. He further noted that Islamic societies have repeatedly encountered polarisation policies and derogatory rhetoric that cast our societies as burdens on civilization and modernity.

He cautioned that such targeting perpetuates a misleading narrative of history, focusing on families, the foundational units of society, and exploiting the expanding technological openness.

In light of these concerns, the minister highlighted the "Message of Oman," which he described as a commitment to promoting a culture of peace and harmony and reinforcing the principles of shared human values.

Al Maamari's speech also covered Oman's initiatives in spreading tolerance, fostering coexistence and understanding, challenging stereotypes about Islam and Muslims, and contributing to the reduction of hate speech and Islamophobia.

The conference's objectives include strengthening Islamic solidarity and cooperation among member states in advocacy, endowments, and Islamic affairs, as well as exploring avenues to refine religious discourse.

Furthermore, the conference aims to promote the sanctity of places of worship and support relations with Islamic organizations abroad, enabling them to fulfill their Islamic mission based on humanitarian values.
