Baku: The Sultanate of Oman has actively engaged in the discussions at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which is held in the capital of Azerbaijan.
The primary objective of this conference is to mitigate the risks associated with climate change and to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ajmi, the Head of the Omani negotiating team at the 29th Climate Summit, highlighted that the Sultanate of Oman's pursuit of a 2050 carbon neutrality plan is a concerted national effort within its policy framework aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
He further noted that this initiative has received recognition from the international community.
Al Ajmi emphasized that the COP29 Climate Summit deliberates on the national efforts and the international cooperation necessary to enable countries to achieve their desired objectives, enhance strategies, and develop human capabilities essential for realizing ambitious and future visions aimed at mitigating the impact of natural disasters caused by climate change.
Dr. Ghazi Ali Al Rowas, another member of the Omani negotiating team, elaborated on the Sultanate of Oman's participation in the negotiations with global groups to finalize the amendments and articles approved at this conference.
The discussions at this international conference cover a broad spectrum of issues, including the provision of necessary financial resources to developing countries to support the implementation of their national plans and projects aimed at adapting to the risks posed by global warming and climate change, achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), enhancing technology transfer and development, and building national capacities in this domain.
