Oman Launches 8th Edition Of Student Startup Programme

Muscat: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation has officially launched the 8th edition of its initiative designed to transform student graduation projects into thriving startups. Online registration is currently available for Omani nationals and residents of Oman who are enrolled in higher education institutions, starting from university diploma level and above, and will remain open until May 31st. This initiative aims to inspire researchers and innovators by facilitating the transition of ideas into innovation-driven startups that contribute to sustainable economic growth. Additionally, it seeks to cultivate a culture of scientific research and innovation, empower student innovators, and promote excellence in entrepreneurship.

The goals of the programme include ensuring the growth and sustainability of startups within the market, aiding in the development of a knowledge-based economy, and enhancing Oman’s position in global rankings. It also focuses on strengthening partnerships with the private sector and offering a variety of strategic and sustainable funding options. This year's edition emphasizes three key areas: Emerging Technologies, Water, and Financial Technologies. Successful teams will gain access to a comprehensive incubation programme, development support, and specialized training aimed at enhancing leadership and professional skills. Furthermore, the programme offers diverse project participation opportunities and innovation tracks that align with the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Eligibility for the program is restricted to students in their final year of university education or graduates who have completed their degree within the last two years. Applications must be submitted electronically via the registration link on the Oman Research Portal, which is accessible in both Arabic and English. Late submissions or those not made through the electronic system will not be accepted. Each participant is allowed to submit only one application for one project. The program is managed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, in partnership with various government and private sector entities, including Omantel, multiple ministries, and several prominent financial and industrial organizations. After the registration period concludes, submitted projects will be assessed by a judging panel made up of program partners, utilizing a multi-stage evaluation process to identify the top projects for the incubation and development phase.
