The Sultanate of Oman and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have reaffirmed their strong historical ties, with both leaders expressing their commitment to further strengthen these relations and enhance cooperation across different sectors to achieve full integration.
A joint statement issued by both countries highlighted the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Jordan as a "State" visit, emphasizing the importance of the deep-rooted fraternal relations between Oman and Jordan. During the visit, bilateral discussions were held between Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, followed by an extensive meeting involving members of both delegations. The discussions were marked by a spirit of friendship, reflecting the longstanding and brotherly bond between the two nations.
The meetings focused on reviewing various areas of cooperation between Oman and Jordan, as well as exploring opportunities to further enhance collaboration and fulfill the aspirations of both peoples.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik conveyed his best wishes to King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein on the occasion of the Kingdom’s celebration of the silver jubilee of King Abdullah’s assumption of his constitutional powers. The two rulers expressed their satisfaction with the longstanding historical ties between their nations and their commitment to enhancing these relations and strengthening cooperation across different sectors, with the ultimate goal of achieving comprehensive integration.
The monarchs praised the progress made by both countries following King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein's visit to the Sultanate of Oman in October 2022. They also commended the outcomes of the 11th session of the Jordanian-Omani Joint Higher Committee, which took place in July 2023 under the leadership of the foreign ministers of both countries, subsequent to reciprocal visits by officials.
Discussions during the visits focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as investment, trade, industry, free and industrial zones, as well as advancements in key sectors like pharmaceuticals, mining, communications and information technology, real estate development, among others.
The leaders emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in alignment with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision and Oman Vision 2040. They highlighted the necessity of implementing agreements, memorandums of understanding, and action plans signed between the two nations, and the need to translate these commitments into tangible steps that benefit both countries. Additionally, they stressed the significance of enhancing communication and fostering exchanges between stakeholders from both countries to identify new opportunities and maximize their potential.
During the State visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman Investment Authority (OIA) and Jordan’s Social Security Corporation, represented by the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore joint investment opportunities and establish new projects in Jordan.
Continuing their coordination, the two monarchs discussed enhancing joint Arab action to address current issues and emerging challenges, emphasizing the importance of the Palestinian cause. They highlighted the need for a just solution that ends the occupation and fulfills the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The monarchs welcomed Norway, Ireland, and Spain's recognition of the State of Palestine as a significant step towards peace and the Two-State Solution. They reiterated the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the monarchs called on the international community to intervene and stop the war. They urged the Security Council to adopt a resolution for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, delivery of humanitarian aid, and prevention of further escalation.
The two rulers emphasized the importance of continuing to provide essential support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) to ensure the agency can fulfill its crucial role as mandated by the UN. They also underlined their opposition to any actions that could escalate the conflict regionally, particularly warning against the severe repercussions of a ground assault on Rafah.
The two leaders further rejected any efforts to divide the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied East Jerusalem, emphasizing that these areas are integral parts of the Palestinian State. They condemned any attempts to displace Palestinians from their homes and cautioned against Israel's aggressive actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem, as well as the rise in attacks by settlers on Palestinians and humanitarian aid missions.
Both monarchs highlighted the importance of preserving the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. Sultan Haitham bin Tarik expressed gratitude for King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein's efforts in safeguarding these sites and their heritage. He also praised the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs for its role in managing the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque through the Jerusalem Endowments Council.
During Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's State Visit to Jordan, the two rulers exchanged honorary medals as a symbol of mutual respect and cooperation.
King Abdullah II was honored by His Majesty the Sultan with the prestigious 'Order of Al Said (Wisam Al-Said)', the highest Omani medal. This gesture symbolizes the Sultan's immense pride in the strong bilateral relations between Oman and Jordan, as well as the deep fraternal bonds shared by the two nations.
In return, King Abdullah II bestowed upon His Majesty the Sultan the esteemed 'Order of al-Hussein bin Ali', the highest Jordanian medal. This recognition signifies the pride felt for the long-standing historical ties that unite the two countries.
Upon concluding the visit, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik expressed heartfelt gratitude to King Abdullah II for the warm reception and generous hospitality extended to him and his accompanying delegation in Jordan.
