Oman Hosts International Workshop On Human Rights Data Collection, Progress Indices

Muscat: An international workshop spanning three days commenced in Muscat on Monday, focusing on the collection of data and indices to measure progress in the field of human rights in accordance with international standards.

The workshop, organized by the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) in collaboration with the UN center for training and documentation in human rights for Southwest Asia and the Arab region, aims to enhance Omani capabilities in carrying out related tasks through practical hands-on training, according to Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Dr. Rashid Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of OHRC, highlighted in his speech that the workshop is attended by representatives from civil society organizations and government institutions.

The workshop offers valuable insights into the application of the UN standard methodology for collecting information on human rights and identifying relevant indicators at the national level.

By utilizing indicators and adopting a standardized human rights-based approach to data collection, countries and national human rights institutions can determine the level of enjoyment of human rights by individuals.
