Oman Affirms Women’s Social, Economic Empowerment

The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women and promoting their social and economic empowerment, as well as enhancing their role in positions of power and decision-making.

This commitment was highlighted during Oman's participation in the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, which took place until March 22, 2024. Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, the Minister of Social Development, represented Oman at the CSW session.

The session focused on accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls by addressing poverty, strengthening institutions, and adopting a gender perspective in financing.

Dr. Laila emphasized that Oman has implemented policies, legislative systems, and institutional frameworks to elevate the status of women, protect their rights, and ensure a decent life for them. She also highlighted the recognition given to women by leaders of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and their contributions to national development. Additionally,

Dr. Laila delivered the Arab statement issued at the Arab Regional Preparatory Meeting, which called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians, and emphasized the importance of unhindered humanitarian aid access.

The statement also condemned the ongoing incitement campaign against the World Health Organization and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). It underscored the commitment and efforts of Arab countries to ensure a dignified life for women and girls.
