Muscat: In collaboration with the Asia Pacific Forum, the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) organized a symposium titled "Promoting and Upholding the Rights of Individuals with Autism from the Perspective of National Human Rights Institutions." This symposium, held via videoconferencing, coincided with World Autism Day.

Dr. Rashid Hamad Al Balushi, Chairman of OHRC, emphasized that the symposium was part of a series of events organized by OHRC in partnership with regional and international organizations. These activities demonstrate OHRC's commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities in safeguarding and strengthening human rights, in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law of the State and international charters and agreements.

During the symposium, the participants reached a consensus on several important measures. These include supporting research on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), fostering collaboration among national human rights institutions to develop unified strategies, enhancing partnerships between national institutions and civil society, and providing training for individuals with autism and their families.

Furthermore, the participants agreed to develop specialized programs for individuals with autism, extend support to public and private initiatives related to autism, review existing laws and agreements to incorporate provisions for this segment of the population, and raise awareness about ASD among society members.
