Middle East: Trump's Gaza Plan Rejected By UAE

United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conveyed to visiting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that his nation opposes the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.

Rubio's trip to the UAE precedes a summit scheduled for Friday in Saudi Arabia, which will include the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council, Egypt, and Jordan, aimed at addressing US President Donald Trump's proposal regarding the future of Gaza following the conflict.

Trump has suggested the "takeover" of the Palestinian territory and the resettlement of its 2.4 million residents, mainly to neighboring Jordan and Egypt, labeling Gaza as uninhabitable.

Reconstruction efforts in Gaza are undoubtedly essential. Following more than a year of Israeli airstrikes in response to the October 7, 2023, attacks by the Hamas militant group, a significant portion of the enclave has been devastated. Currently, a tenuous ceasefire is in place.
