Massive Rush In Oman Markets To Buy Essentials For Eid Al Fitr

Muscat: On the eve of Eid Al Fitr, shops and hypermarkets in the Sultanate of Oman experienced a significant surge in customer traffic. Families were observed purchasing various commodities to celebrate the festive occasion.

To avoid the last-minute rush, many individuals had already purchased sheep and goats in advance. People across the country were seen procuring their Eid necessities early, including clothing, food items, and traditional delicacies that are traditionally served during Eid.

As Eid al Fitr draws near, both citizens and expatriates have also flocked to the Habta, a traditional market held in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

The Habta market, occurring three days before Eid al Fitr, is a significant event in preserving Omani heritage.

Shoppers can be seen purchasing livestock, spices, fruits, dates, and Omani sweets at these markets.

Moreover, the market is bustling with activity centered around traditional jewelry, daggers, sticks, and women's handicrafts.

These decorative items enhance the festive atmosphere and elevate the spirit of Eid by adding a touch of splendor to Omani attire.

Local resident Mohammed mentioned that he frequents these Habta markets annually due to the reasonable prices.

The Muscat Municipality has announced that its slaughterhouses in Seeb and Amerat are ready to cater to the increased demand for meat during Eid al Fitr.

The slaughterhouses have well-coordinated teams of butchers, cleaners, and other essential personnel, along with the latest slaughtering equipment to ensure top-notch service.

To accommodate the surge in demand, the working hours at the slaughterhouses have been extended. Livestock processing for sheep and goats will take place from 7am to 2pm, while cows and camels will be processed from 7pm to 10pm.

This schedule will be maintained during the first and second days of Eid Al Fitr, with operations transitioning to a morning-only schedule from 6am to 1pm from the third day onwards.
