Labour Minister Discusses Omanisation, SMEs Challenges

Salalah: On Monday, the Ministry of Labour convened a meeting with business proprietors within the Dhofar Governorate to deliberate on the challenges encountered within the labor market.

The discussion shed light on the obstacles faced by business owners, with a particular focus on those operating small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It highlighted the necessity to refine procedures to facilitate the establishment of new ventures. Additionally, the conversation addressed the issue of Omanization in certain activities and strategies to enhance the development of the Omani labor market at large.

The assembly took place at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah and was attended by Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, the Minister of Labour.

Dr. Mahad emphasized that the Ministry's "Social Dialogue Committee" has expedited the pace of action, cooperation, and partnership among the three parties involved in production: the government, employers, and workers.

This concerted effort has resulted in an increase in production that aligns with the demands of the global labor market.

Dr. Mahad further highlighted the Ministry's initiatives to develop market tools, bolster support for private sector institutions, and enhance incentives for establishments.

He explained that the Labor Law and related regulations are being revised to stabilize the labor market and adapt to the advancements observed in the global market.

Dr. Mahad stressed the urgency of accelerating these efforts, considering the challenges and significant progress being observed in the markets. The Ministry is committed to supporting the workforce, recognizing it as the cornerstone of this development through employment initiatives in collaboration with the private sector.

The Minister of Labour also underscored the critical role of the private sector in the Dhofar Governorate, which is experiencing rapid growth, especially within the tourism sector.

He commended the governorate for its efforts in strengthening the labor sector and the contributions made by small and medium enterprises and their national cadres in the private sector towards the establishment of companies and the intensification of interest in entrepreneurial projects related to artificial intelligence and the support of training programs.
