Information Ministers’ Council Discusses Media Support For Palestinians Cause

The 54th session of the Arab Information Ministers Council was recently held in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, with the Sultanate of Oman being represented by the Ministry of Information. Leading the Omani delegation was Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, the Minister of Information.

During the meeting, the Council focused on various important topics, including the support of media for the Palestinian cause and the utilization of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) in Arab media. Additionally, the recommendations of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media were thoroughly examined, with special attention given to the implementation of an interim plan aimed at developing a joint Arab media strategy to combat terrorism.

Furthermore, the ministers engaged in discussions regarding the finalization of negotiations with international media companies, the promotion of a media culture that emphasizes environmental issues, and the empowerment of Arab women in the media sector.

The Arab Information Ministers Council expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by Arab media organizations in covering the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories. They acknowledged the crucial role played by the Arab media in documenting the crimes committed by occupation forces against innocent civilians, including media and medical teams.

Lastly, the Council approved the recommendations put forth during the 5th meeting of the group of experts responsible for evaluating and updating the Arab media action plan.

The ministers endorsed the Arab League (AL) Secretariat-General’s decision to assign AL missions to continue media coverage of the Palestinian cause abroad, particularly through media forums and conferences to counter stereotypes against Arabs and Muslims.

The Council also gave the green light for the creation of a documentary film entitled “The Arab League’s Journey to Destiny”. This documentary, distributed to the Arab League’s centers and missions overseas, was shared through the AL websites and social media platforms.

It was decided that the 100th regular session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media would be named “Martyrs of Gaza and the Palestinian Media.”

The Arab Information Ministers Council examined the progress of media education programs aimed at encouraging young individuals to create content focusing on sustainable development issues, raising awareness about environmental risks, and addressing developmental challenges.

The material is expected to be produced in collaboration with official institutions and civil society organizations.

Furthermore, it was also decided to dedicate a section titled “Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Media” in the current Council session, and to promote the utilization of AI in generating meaningful media content.
