Indian Schools In Oman Implement New National Education Policy

Muscat: The Board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman has announced the adoption of India's new National Education Policy (NEP) across all Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman. The NEP introduces a restructured academic framework consisting of a 5+3+3+4 system, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to education throughout various developmental phases of a child's life.

Under the revised policy, the Foundational Stage will now encompass three years of Kindergarten (Balvatika) for children aged 3 to 6, followed by Classes 1 and 2 for those aged 6 to 8.

The Preparatory Stage will include Classes 3 to 5 for students aged 8 to 11, while the Middle Stage will cover Classes 6 to 8 for ages 11 to 14. The Secondary Stage will consist of Classes 9 to 12 for students aged 14 to 18.

A notable change for Indian Schools in Oman under the NEP is the extension of the kindergarten program from the previous 2-year model to a 3-year program, providing a more thorough foundational education.

Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools Oman, emphasized the Board’s strong commitment to the implementation of the new education policy. He remarked, “The rollout of the National Education Policy in Indian Schools in Oman marks a pivotal advancement in enhancing the educational journey for our children. We assure parents of our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education that meets global standards.” He added, “The introduction of Balvatika as a foundational program underscores our dedication to supporting the youngest learners by promoting their physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development from the very beginning.”

Indian Schools Oman will introduce 'Balvatika' (Pre-school) as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, starting from the academic year 2025-2026, with classes commencing on April 1, 2025.

For the 2025-26 academic year, admissions will adhere to strict age requirements as of March 31, 2025, as outlined below:
•    Balvatika: Children who are 3 years old but not yet 4
•    KG I: Children who are 4 years old but not yet 5
•    KG II: Children who are 5 years old but not yet 6
•    Class I: Children who are 6 years old but not yet 7

Interschool transfer admissions will necessitate valid Transfer Certificates, while the promotion policy for students currently enrolled will remain unchanged from KG I to KG II and from KG II to Class I.

The curriculum for Balvatika will be guided by the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stages (NCF-FS) 2022, focusing on five essential areas of child development: Physical and motor skills, Cognitive and intellectual development, Language and communication abilities, Social and emotional health, and Creative expression and aesthetic appreciation.

The launch of Balvatika represents a significant step forward in formal education for children aged 3 to 8 years, fostering an environment conducive to exploration, learning, and creativity.

This initiative underscores the Board’s commitment to meeting the educational standards set forth in the NEP, ensuring quality education for the Indian community in Oman.

Parents are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates from their respective schools.
