New Delhi: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) said on Thursday that it intends to increase manufacturing capacity at its fourth plant in Vithalapur, Ahmedabad district, Gujarat.
This move is expected to boost yearly output by 650,000 units, bringing the overall capacity of the fourth factory to 2. 61 million units. It is scheduled to be functional by 2027.
HMSI now has four production facilities in India, with a total yearly production capacity of 6. 14 million units. Furthermore, Honda said in a statement that total production volume reached 70 million units in April of this year, 25 years after production began in 2001.
Honda opened its fourth facility in February 2016, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 vehicles. However, Honda eventually expanded the fourth plant by two additional lines, increasing annual production capacity to 1. 96 million units.
Honda intends to invest around 9. 2 billion rupees to develop its fourth line, which is expected to generate 1,800 new jobs.
Honda has been continually investing and expanding its manufacturing capacity in India, the world's largest motorcycle market, in order to deliver happiness to its consumers. HMSI has surpassed 70 million pieces in total production after 25 years, owing to strong support, according to HMSI President and CEO Tsutsumu Otani.
Honda intends to boost its total annual production capacity from 6. 14 million units now to approximately 7 million units in 2027 by expanding production capacity at other Indian plants.
On the other hand, Honda's total worldwide output of engine/motor-powered motorcycles has surpassed 500 million units, 76 years after the firm began mass production of motorcycles in 1949 with the Dream DType.
Honda has a global manufacturing capacity of over 20 million units in 23 countries and regions, with 37 production units. More than 30,000 Honda dealerships make the company's products and services available to clients worldwide.
