HM’s Jordan Visit To Boost Bilateral Ties, Investment

The upcoming visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Jordan on Wednesday is expected to enhance cooperation between the two nations in various sectors, particularly in the fields of economy, tourism, trade, and investment.

Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al Ojaili, Oman's Ambassador to Jordan, emphasized the significance of His Majesty's visit, as it marks his first official visit to Jordan since assuming power in the country. He also highlighted that the visit will address important matters and further strengthen the longstanding fraternal relations between Oman and Jordan, which have spanned over 53 years. Al Ojaili described these relations as a shining example of brotherhood, cooperation, and mutual understanding.

The ambassador further emphasized the visit's role in enhancing commercial, investment, and industrial exchanges, as well as fostering cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.

Amjad Al Quhaiwi, Jordan's Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, highlighted that His Majesty's visit is a response to an invitation from King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan. He emphasized that the visit reflects the exceptional and historic relations between the two nations.

Al Quhaiwi also noted that the visit coincides with Jordan's celebration of the silver jubilee of King Abdullah II's assumption of power.

He elaborated on the potential for collaboration between the two nations in various sectors such as information technology (IT), food, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, mining, and communications industries. Emphasizing the shared commitment to enhancing economic cooperation and overcoming any obstacles faced by businessmen and the private sector.

According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the trade volume between Oman and Jordan experienced significant growth in 2023, witnessing a 25 percent increase to approximately OMR74.51 million, compared to OMR59.72 million in 2022.

Furthermore, the statistics indicate that Omani exports to Jordan in 2023 saw a notable rise of 28.2 percent, surpassing OMR43.85 million, in contrast to over OMR34.20 million in 2022. Additionally, the total value of Oman's imports from Jordan in 2023 increased by 41.5 percent, reaching around OMR27.51 million, compared to OMR19.44 million in 2022.

Preliminary figures also reveal that the direct investments from Jordan into Oman reached approximately OMR241.80 million by the end of the previous year.

In terms of tourism, the latest statistics indicate that the number of Omani tourists visiting Jordan in the previous year amounted to 21,738, and as of the end of April this year, it reached 6,757.
