HH Sayyid Theyazin Launches National System For Evaluating School Performance

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, today officiated the inauguration of the “National System for Evaluating School Performance” in the Sultanate of Oman. This event was organized by the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA).

The initiative aims to motivate educational institutions to establish their own internal sub-systems, ensuring quality in alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which prioritizes education.

The “National System for Evaluating School Performance” employs a multi-tiered evaluation framework that categorizes performances as “outstanding” (to be modeled by schools), “good,” “suitable,” and “poor” (indicating performances that do not meet minimum quality standards and necessitate immediate intervention).

This system incorporates eight primary performance evaluation tools that focus on various aspects of school education: comprehensiveness, impact assessment, student-centeredness, adherence to national and international standards, procedural accuracy, transparency, impartiality, improvement, and accountability.

The introduction of this system aligns with the Authority's mission to uphold an educational standard that meets international benchmarks.

Furthermore, the system presents a holistic strategy aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of both government and private schools through precise evaluations and comprehensive reporting.

The Authority is dedicated to establishing educational standards that align with national objectives and visions, address labor market needs, and remain current with global developments.

Represented by the Centre for Quality Assurance of School Education, the Authority has launched the “National System for Evaluating School Performance” following extensive stages of development, testing, and review. This initiative involved a thorough analysis of pertinent documents and studies, as well as a comprehensive examination of various regional and international practices.

The implementation of this new system is expected to facilitate a significant enhancement in school performance across the Sultanate of Oman, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Specialists will conduct field visits to monitor the evaluation process, producing reports that highlight both strengths and areas for growth. This will assist school supervisory bodies in formulating more effective strategic plans.

Additionally, the system aims to cultivate sustainable partnerships with the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to promote integration and elevate the quality of education in the Sultanate of Oman. The Authority is committed to collaborating with specialized international and regional organizations to share expertise in this domain.

This initiative reinforces the Sultanate of Oman’s status as a prominent educational hub on both regional and international stages. Consequently, it will contribute to the creation of an engaging and innovative educational environment that fosters holistic student development and fulfills the expectations of parents and the community.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of several members of the Royal family, ministers, State Council members, undersecretaries, Shura Council members, and other stakeholders.
