HH Sayyid Fahd Receives OPEC Secretary General

Muscat: HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, welcomed Haitham Faisal Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), along with his delegation, during their visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

In the course of their discussions, HH Sayyid Fahd expressed Oman’s appreciation for OPEC’s significant role in harmonizing and unifying the petroleum policies among its member states, as well as in identifying optimal strategies to safeguard their interests.

He highlighted Oman’s ongoing collaboration with OPEC to support its initiatives aimed at stabilizing global oil markets, noting Oman’s active participation in the formation of the joint alliance between OPEC and non-member states (OPEC Plus) since 2016.

The meeting also explored the cooperative relationship between the Omani government and OPEC, focusing on efforts to maintain a balance in energy supplies that benefit the global economy, and to devise effective strategies for protecting the organization’s interests.

In response, the Secretary General of OPEC emphasized that under its astute leadership, the Sultanate of Oman plays a vital role in bolstering OPEC’s initiatives. He acknowledged Oman’s active participation as an observer in OPEC meetings and its efforts to align policies concerning oil markets, commending the Sultanate’s accomplishments across various sectors.

The Secretary General highlighted the significance of this visit, which is intended to explore ways to further support the organization’s objectives.

The meeting was also attended by Eng. Salim Nassir Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.
