Muscat: Field teams from the Environment Authority in the South Al Batinah Governorate have successfully removed 12,597 invasive birds in the Sultanate of Oman over the last two months. This operation is part of the second phase of the National Campaign to Combat Invasive Birds (Mynah and Indian Crow), which recommenced in early July.
Issa bin Abdullah Al Yahmadi, Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Combating Invasive Birds, stated that the campaign's goal is to safeguard the local environment and preserve biodiversity. Invasive birds, including mynahs and Indian crows, threaten native species by competing for food and habitats, potentially leading to the decline or extinction of local wildlife.
The campaign employs approved methods that comply with environmental standards, ensuring the safety of other species. This initiative is a joint effort involving the Environment Authority, relevant authorities, and the local community, all dedicated to protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable development.
