Muscat: SalamAir, Oman’s budget airline, has announced plans to expand its fleet by adding 10 new aircraft over the next three years to accommodate the rising demand from passengers. The airline has formally requested 10 Airbus A320 aircraft from various leasing companies to support its growth objectives for the next five years.
"Our return to a low-fare strategy has proven to be very successful, resulting in full flights and a demand that exceeds our current capacity," stated Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir. “To facilitate our expansion over the next five years, we need additional aircraft to enhance our domestic and regional flight offerings and to introduce new destinations that are not currently served. These initiatives will boost tourism in Oman and promote faster growth in the industry. Our low-fare model has gained significant popularity, and our plan to add 10 more aircraft in the next three years is a direct response to the increasing demand for affordable travel. We are also observing other airlines entering this market due to the evident demand, which is beneficial as it will lead to lower fares and advantages for consumers.”
In 2024, the airline transported over 3.2 million passengers, marking a 20% increase compared to the previous year. This year also saw SalamAir's renewed focus on low fares, with year-round starting prices of 9.99 OMR for domestic routes. These initiatives have led to a surge in travel, prompting SalamAir to seek additional aircraft to meet this heightened demand. The airline is set to receive two new A321 aircraft in 2025, bringing its fleet to 15. With the addition of the 10 new aircraft, SalamAir aims to expand its fleet to 25 A320s by 2028.
