Gaza Crisis: Oman Urges Stronger Action On Palestinian Rights

Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman has expressed significant disapproval of the High Commissioner for Human Rights' report regarding the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, underscoring the importance of adhering to established human rights principles. Oman has specifically called for the unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza and has firmly rejected any efforts to undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

In his remarks at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, His Excellency Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman Al-Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, acknowledged the report's findings. However, he noted that these findings did not sufficiently capture the severe suffering experienced by the people of Gaza. His Excellency emphasized the significant pressures faced by organizations such as UNRWA and other international entities operating in the occupied territories, as well as the tendency of certain Western nations to overlook Palestinian rights and apply inconsistent standards in addressing human rights concerns, which reflects an unacceptable level of selectivity.

Moreover, His Excellency highlighted the report's imbalance in addressing the considerable harm inflicted on Palestinian victims due to the occupation, as well as the extensive destruction resulting from Israeli actions in Gaza. He asserted that it is unacceptable for the international community to merely urge the occupying power to allow the entry of food or medical assistance, as these are fundamental rights recognized by international law. He called on international institutions to enhance their efforts to bring an end to this prolonged tragedy.
