Forum Focuses On Enhancing Role Of Media In Supporting Energy Issues

Salalah: In collaboration with the GCC Secretariat General, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals has organized the 5th GCC Petroleum Media Forum in Salalah today.

This forum, attended by energy experts and media professionals from both Oman and abroad, has focused on exploring strategies to enhance the media's role in supporting issues related to the energy sector. It has examined the potential of the media within the oil and gas sectors, aiming to improve communication and foster cooperation between media professionals and experts.

The distinguished guest speaker, Mohsin Hamad Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, delivered a speech emphasizing that the choice of Oman as the venue for the forum underscores the close cooperation among GCC states. He highlighted the forum's objective to improve communication and understanding in the fields of oil and gas.

Al Hadhrami further noted the forum's significance as a platform for the exchange of experiences related to the challenges faced by the energy sector.

Dr. Mohammed Falah Al Rashidi, Director of the Energy Department at the GCC Secretariat General, underscored the critical role of the media in shaping public opinion and combating rumors and misinformation concerning oil and gas. He stated that the media acts as a fundamental partner in addressing global developments and challenges within the energy sector. This, he added, contributes to enhancing energy security, promoting sustainable development, and facilitating the transition to renewable energy sources.

Jamal Issa Al Loughani, Secretary General of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), showcased a visual presentation on topics such as "The Importance of Oil and Natural Gas in Arab Countries," "The Prospects and Challenges of the Future of Energy in the Arab World and Globally," and "The Role of Petroleum Media in Shaping the Energy Landscape."

Dr. Amer Nasser Al Matani, CEO of Oman LNG Development Foundation, delivered a speech stressing the importance of supporting initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions, paying attention to environmental sustainability, and developing social responsibility programs.

The forum's agenda included discussion panels and workshops dedicated to enhancing the skills of media professionals in the energy sector, highlighting energy transformations, and emphasizing the importance of global energy security.

Additionally, the forum addressed critical issues such as environmental and social sustainability within the energy sector and the media's role in navigating future challenges.
